Principles of Collaborative Communication Flashcards
I am aware of my thoughts, feelings, social constructs and beliefs that may get in the way of treating client’s fairly.
Social justice.
I have kept my processes completely visible to my client, and have had discussions about obstacles that may get in the way of their progress.
Transparency
I ask questions to elicit the knowledge of my client, assuming they are the expert in their own life.
Power with not power over.
I view the client’s problem as external to them and value their contributions.
Respect
I ask questions that allow my client to take as much responsibility for growth and change as possible.
Self-agency, client directed.
I value multiple perspectives and do not blame or privilege a single truth
Partnership and collaboration
I use non-blaming, curious and tentative wording and use my client’s words where possible.
Focus on language
I listen to my client and explore what is absent/implicit in my client’s concerns/hopes to identify a greater meaning for my client’s intentions. I also operate as a reflective practice.
Focus on values.
