I make assumptions about what someone will say before they have said it.
Mind reading
I prepare what I am going to say before the other person has finished speaking
Rehearsing
I have selective attention when listening, and only hear certain types of information.
Filtering.
I hold certain opinions about the other person while listening to them.
Judging.
I tell others how to fix their problem.
Advising.
I am argumentative, trying to convince the other person that my position is better.
Sparring.
My main focus is on being right, and I cannot permit myself to be wrong or take in other opinions.
Being right.
I go off track while speaking to someone, changing topics, making jokes and interrupting.
Derailing.
I agree too quickly and too much, which indicates I have not properly listened.
Placating.
I spend listening trying to work out whether the other person is smarter/better than me.
Comparing.
I spend conversations linking other people’s experiences to my own.
Identifying.
I am reminded of other memories while listening and drift from the conversation.
Daydreaming.
