Principles of Biomedical Science Flashcards
What is Biomedical Science?
The application of Biology & physiology to clinical medicine.
What is an experiment?
A research study conducted to determine the effect that one variable has upon another variable.
What is a hypothesis?
A clear prediction of the anticipated results of an experiment.
What is a independent variable?
The variable that is varied or manipulated by the researcher.
Whats is a dependent variable?
The measurable effect, outcome, or response in which the research is interested.
What is control group?
The group is an experiment where the independent variable being tested is not applied so that it may serve as a standard for comparison against the experimental group where the independent variable is applied.
What is adenine?
Its a mixture of one of the four constituent bases of nucleic acids.
what is chromosome?
Its a thread like structure and; it carries DNA or genetic information in form of genes.
Whats a Cytosine?
Its a mixture found in living tissue as a base of nucleic acid.
What is DNA?
DNA is a living organism that carries genetic information .
What is Gel Electrophoresis?
Its the separation of the nucleic acids or proteins, on the basis of the size
What is an autopsy?
Its an examination of the body after death usually with such dissection as will show the organs for making sure the cause of death.
What is Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) ?
A comprehensive set of standards & practices designed to give patients specific rights regarding their personal health information.
What is Medical Examiner?
Its like a doctor who performs an autopsy when death may be accidental or violent. He or she maybe also serve some jurisdiction as the coroner.
What is gene?
Its a unit that was given from the parent to the offspring. And it determines the personality & traits of the offspring.
