Lesson 2.1- What is Diabetes? (Key Terms) Flashcards
What is glucagon?
It is a protein that is created by the pancreatic endocrine cell that increases the blood (sugar) level.
What is a glucose tolerance test?
It is a test that determines the amount of sugar in the uterus . The test is to see if that person has diabetes.
What is homeostasis?
The maintenance of relatively stable internal environmental.
What is hormone?
It circulates in blood & produces effect on the activity of the cell.
What is insulin?
Hormone secreted by the pancreas & regulation of glucose levels in the blood.
What is negative feedback?
A primary mechanism of homeostasis which triggers a response that counteracts the initial fluctuation.
What is a positive feedback?
Tends to magnify a process.
What is type 1 diabetes?
It develops during the childhood or adolescence & deficiency of insulin , leading to high blood glucose levels.
What is type 2 diabetes?
Develops in adulthood & mostly obese individual & high blood glucose. Impaired insulin utilization with bodies inability to compensate .
What is Glucagon 6?
hormone secreted by pancreatic endocrine cells ,raises blood glucose levels
What is Glucose 7 Tolerance Test?
A test that determines of blood glucose levels in the blood/ urine used to detect diabetes.
