Principles and theories of learning Flashcards
What are the four theories
Operant conditioning(skinner) Insight learning(Gestalt) Social development theory(Vygotsky) Observstional learning(Bandura)
What is operant conditioning?
Is a theory of learning proposed by Skinner and shows that for a performer to learn a skill they must enhance their S-R bond. They do this by the coach manipulating the environment, shaping their behavior, using negative/positive reinforcement and punishment. Then when they know the skill they use positive reinforcement so the performer to repeat the skill and strengthen their S-R bond.
What is observational learning?
Is a theory of learning proposed by Bandura and shows that to learn a skill observation is needed. This is where a coach firstly demonstrates. Then player pays attention then retains the demonstration. Then motor reproduces the move and finally has to be motivated.
What is social development theory?
This a theory made by Vygotsky it is mainly focused on What a player can do alone? What a player can do with help? What a player can’t do yet?
What is Insight learning?
This theory is proposed by Gestalist and suggests that the performer uses existing knowledge and encourages a performer to think for themselves which develops their cognitive process.
