Principles Flashcards
Why should we help those in need?
- We should help those in need or lowly (lower in status or importance, humble in manner or spirit) because that is what Jehovah wants us to do. We would be helping Jehovah help the lowly one by lending our service to them. And in return, Jehovah will repay us.
Proverbs 19:17
He that is showing favor to the lowly one is lending to Jehovah, and his treatment He will repay to him.
- Help your fellow brother/anyone to show our love, not just in word or empty sayings, but in action and truth
1 John 3:17, 18
But whoever has this world’s means for supporting life and beholds his brother having need and yet shuts the door of his tender compassions upon him, in what way does the love of God remain in him? Little children, let us love, neither in word nor with the tongue, but in deed and truth.
- or 2.1. Don’t just wish your fellow brother/sister well without providing them with the means to be better off. Faith without works, or words without action, is dead or empty.
James 2:15-17
If a brother or a sister is in a naked state and lacking the food sufficient for the day, yet a certain one of YOU says to them: “Go in peace, keep warm and well fed,” but YOU do not give them the necessities for [their] body, of what benefit is it? Thus, too, faith, if it does not have works, is dead in itself.
4 or 2.2. Supporting Life
Luke 3:11
In reply he (John) would say to them (people around the Jordon): “Let the man that has two undergarments share with the man that has none, and let him that has things to eat do the same.”
5 or 2.3. Those in need: gleaning
Deuteronomy 26:12
“When you finish with tithing the entire tenth of your produce in the third year, the year of the tenth, you must also give it to the Levite, the alien resident, the fatherless boy and the widow, and they must eat it within your gates and satisfy themselves.
6 or 2.4. To what extent should you help those in need? You must help to keep him alive even if he is poor.
Leviticus 25:35
And in case your brother grows poor and so he is financially weak alongside you, you must also sustain him. As an alien resident and a settler, he must keep alive with you.
7 or 2.5. Isaiah is saying that you should share your food with the hungry, bring the afflicted/homeless to your house, and provide clothing to those who are not properly clothed. we should not hide ourselves or avoid these responsibilities.
Isaiah 58:7
Is it not the dividing of your bread out to the hungry one, and that you should bring the afflicted, homeless people into [your] house? That, in case you should see someone naked, you must cover him, and that you should not hide yourself from your own flesh?
(Look up context)
How do we show love for one another?
1 Corinthians 13:4
Love is long-suffering and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, does not get puffed up.
2.
Romans 12:9
Let [YOUR] love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is wicked, cling to what is good.
1 Peter 1:22
Now that YOU have purified YOUR souls by [YOUR] obedience to the truth with unhypocritical brotherly affection as the result, love one another intensely from the heart.
