Prince Flashcards
“If you ever disturb our streets again your lives will pay the forfait.”
Act one scene one
The possessive of “your lives” literally means that those responsible will die, but it could also refer to the “lives” which belong to them aka their children’s. Witch would be foreshadowing the death of both Romeo and Juliet
“All are punished.”
Act five scene three
Prince Escalus, in pointing out that “all are punished,” shows that no good comes of senseless hate and cruelty. Romeo and Juliet are dead, and their parents will mourn them for the rest of their lives—all because of their silly feud.
Verb
“Immediately we do exile him hence.”
Act three scene one
After Mercutio’s death, Romeo becomes filled with a murderous rage and kills Tybalt. Due to his actions Romeo is banished from Verona: the Prince says “Immediately we do exile him hence”. This banishment sets in motion the tragic ending of Romeo and Juliet as they try to be together.
“My blood for your rude brawles doth lier bleeding.”
Act three scene one
The Prince goes on to point out that he himself has as much reason to demand revenge as the Capulets or Montagues. Mercutio was his kinsman. Mercadeo was a victim of this fued and the prince himself had losses due to it .
