Juliet Flashcards
Act 1 scene 5
“You kiss by the book.”
Juliet’s comment that Romeo kisses “by th’ book” can be interpreted in multiple ways, perhaps at the same time. The “book” she is referencing may be the Bible linking to religious imagery, suggesting that he’s such a good kisser that he’s made the “sin” of kissing holy.
“ this is thy sheath.”
Act five scene three
Juliet speaks these words as she takes her own life with Romeo’s dagger. She views the dagger as a means to reunite with her beloved in death, highlighting the idea that their love is so strong that it can conquer even death itself. She also possibly sees Romeo’s dagger as being there by fate as if she was meant to die and be re united with her one true love.
“Where is my lord .”
