Retrieve ECMO pump from storage

Plug in pump & heater

Connect Air & O2 Lines to wall

Clamp Rotaflow Outlet

Apply Paste to Rotaflow

Insert Rotaflow under lip & secure lock

Remove cover & turn on Rotaflow pump

Rotaflow perform self check/test; wait for alarm to sound

Pump display reads [-OK-EX.X PUMP OK]

Pump Display message [Valve?]

Press Silence Button & Press Clamp Button to confirm

Turn Flow knob past 1500 RPMs & back down to bring flow knob to zero

Press Zero Button for 3 seconds, until long beep is audible for calibration

Confirm Flow display reads 0.00

Turn Flow to 1000 RPMs; will prevent retrograde flow

Release clamp & recirculate ECMO circuit

Remove yellow vent clamp; Prime oxygenator

Discontinue shunt around oxygenator

Prime pressure lines & zero

Add 2 x 1 liter sterile Watertown water heater

Save bottle for use in blood prime

Turn water heater to 35 degrees

Turn water fittings to oxygenator to open

Check for air; remove any bubbles present

Ask surgeon if they want to blood prime circuit

Prime 1 bag of PRBCs for pump
50mL 25% albumin
30 mEq Sodium Bicarbonate
100 units of heparin

Prime circuit with primed blood bag using empty sterile water bottle for fluid removal

2nd unit of blood needed; DO NOT place prime drugs in 2nd bag

Discontinue the prime filter

Reattach the loop

Blow off CO2 by:
Setting pump at 800 mL/min Setting sweep flow at 500mL/min Setting the FiO2 at 21% Run this for a minimum of 90 seconds or until circuit is attached to patient
