Primary Vs Secondary Response Flashcards
1
Q
Primary
A
1) pathogen enters for the first time.
2) clonal selection is a slow process. Starts to produce antibodies but it takes a few days before the number in blood rises to a level that can combat infection successfully.
2
Q
Secondary
A
1) after being exposed to antigen, t and B lymphocytes differentiate into memory cells.
2) these memory cells remain in blood for a long time.
3) they recognise the antigen more quickly
4) next time pathogen enters correct lymphocyte is corrected faster I.e clonal selection is a quicker process.
5) so production of antibodies all its sooner.
6) person may not feel any symptoms.
