What is Health Literacy?
Health literacy is about how people understand information about health and health care, and how they apply that information to their lives, use it to make decisions and act on it.

People with low health literacy may consume more resources by visiting inpatient and emergency departments more frequently, resulting in higher care expenditures and lower health outcomes.

What can we do to ensure our patients understand the health information we give them?
Simple enquiries are a useful tool that health care practitioners can use to determine whether a patient understands what is being conveyed.The accuracy of the patient’s answers will reveal whether or not the key information and/or instructions were comprehended.
What is Implicit Bias?
a form of bias that occurs automatically and unintentionally, that nevertheless affects judgments, decisions, and behaviours.
What are some factors that contribute to implicit Bias?
They are influenced by our background, personal experiences, societal stereotypes and cultural context.
