Primary HA Flashcards
What is the MC type of headache?
Tension type HA (80%)
What are the red flag signs for HA?
Worst HA of their life, new onset focal neuro weakness (stroke), onset of HA at >50 yo (temporal arteritis, neoplasm), associated systemic sx (meningitis, encephalitis), acute eye pain (acute angle glaucoma), high blood pressure (hypertensive emergency, preeclampsia)
What is a trigger point?
Patient presents with characteristic pain pattern, located only in muscle tissue, elicits a radiating pain pattern while pressed, present within a taut band of tissue, elicits twitch response with palpation
What is the etiology of migraines?
Have a neurologic etiology however resultant pain pattern includes MSK pain generators (tension HA like)
What should be known for the biomechanics model?
Know specific modalities for specific etiologies of head pain, know which HA respond well to conservative modalities (OMM, PT)
What should be known for the respiratory/circulatory model?
Oxygen is abortive for cluster HA
What should be known for the metabolic model?
General knowledge of common abortive/preventive meds
What should be known for the neuro model?
Know general abortive and prophylactic treatments
What should be known for the behavioral model?
Know the common triggers and behavior modifications and know behavior interventions that decrease number of HA
