Appreciate the idea of generalism
A
- Seeing the person as a whole and in the context of his or her family and wider social environment
- Using this perspective as part of one’s clinical method and therapeutic approach to all clinical encounters
- Being able to deal with undifferentiated illness and the widest range of patients and conditions
- In the context of general practice, taking continuity of responsibility for people’s care across many disease episodes and over time
- Also in general practice, coordinating his or her care as needed across organisations within and between health and social care.

What are some of the factors that early on in a child’s life can have a crucial impact upon adult health and life chances?

- Deprivation - (ASSIGN)
- Not been told they were loved
- Role modeling
- Abuse

What is carried out during the 6-8 weeks screening done by GP’s and also health visitors ?
A
- Feeding of baby (breast, bottle or both)
- Parental concerns (feeding, appearance; behaviour; hearing; eyes; sleeping; movement; illness; crying; weight gain and other)
- Development (gross motor, hearing & communication, vision & social awareness)
- Physical (length, weight, heart, hips, testes, genitalia, femoral pulses and eyes)
- Diagnoses/concerns (Read coded)
- Sleeping position (prone, supine and side)
- Identification data such as name, address, GP etc. are also checked and updated.

When may GP’s often see the new born for the first time ?
A
Due to health visitors also doing some of the 6-8weeks screenings soem GP’s see the new born for the first time when they start coming for their immunisations

What is a very important part of appointments with GP’s seeing kids but can be vey difficult to bring up ?
A
Child protection issues
