When you receive a pre alert, what do you need to consider to make sure you are ready?
C- is there likely to be bleeding? Prime the rapid infuser?request blood products?
A- is the patient intubated? Will they need intubation? Specialist equipment ready?
B- traumatic injury? Chest drain?
C- appropriate IV access? Trauma line? 10?
D - mechanism of injury, traumatic brain injury? Neurosurgeons? Specialist meds?
Warming?
E -all specialist equipment ready?
Appropriate specialities? Allocated roles?

What is included in a primary survey?
C-ABCDE
C- compressible haemorrhage and spine
A -airway
B - breathing
C- circulation
D - disability
E -exposure/everything else
When assessing the spine in a primary survey what are you assessing for?
Is the spine protected appropriately?
What is the purpose of a secondary survey?
To assess for all identifiable injuries
What are you assessing for in the musculoskeletal system during a secondary survey?
Inspecting and palpating all limbs, thoracic and lumbar spine for any blunt or penetrating trauma
Asses for peripheral neurological or vascular deficit
What are you assessing for in a neurological exam during a secondary survey?
Assessing all limbs for tone, power and sensation
Elicit the level of any motor or sensory deficit
Examine reflexes
Examine for anal tone where indicated
During a secondary survey what do you need to document about the skin?
Document any: incisional wounds, bruises, abrasions, lacerations, erythema, pressure sores, thermal injuries
What adjustments do you need to think about for a bariatric patient?
Request a bariatric trolley/bed
Coordinate with CT team if needing CT
When would you refer a patients to the Mental Health Liaison Sercive?
Acute mental concerns
Self harming/thoughts of harming others
Actively suicidal
