Pricing and Support Flashcards
Describe 3 AWS Free Tier Offers
1) Always Free
* Do not expire
* Available to all ASW customers
* Lambda allows 1 million free requests and up to 3.2 million seconds of compute time per month
* Amazon DynamoDB allows 25 GB free storage per month
2) 12 Months Free
* Free for 12 months following initial sign-up date to AWS
* EXAMPLE: specific amounts of Amazon S3 storage, thresholds for monthly hours of Amazon EC2 compute time and amounts of Amazon CloudFront data transfer out
3) Trials
* Short-term free trial offers start from the date activate a particular services
* Length of each trial might vary by number of days or the amount of usage in the service
* EXAMPLE: Amazon Inspector offers a 90-day free trial and Amazon Lightsail offers 750 free hours of usage over a 30-day period
Describe how AWS pricing works
1) AWS offers a range of cloud computing services with pay-as-you-go pricing
* Pay for what you use
- For each service, pay for exactly the amount of resources that actually use, without requiring long-term contracts or complex licensing
* Pay less when you reserve
- Some services offer reservation options that provide a significant discount compared to On-Demand Instance pricing
- EXAMPLE: Amazon EC2 instances need to run continuously
* Pay less with volume-based discounts when you use more
- Some services offer tiered pricing, so the per-unit cost is incrementally lower with increased usage
- EXAMPLE: The more Amazon S3 storage space used, the less paid for it per GB
Describe the AWS Pricing Calculator
1) Allows to explore AWS services and create an estimate for the cost of the use cases on AWS
2) Can organize the AWS estimates by group that define
3) A group can reflect how the company is organized, such as providing estimates by cost center
4) When create an estimate, can save it and generate a link to share it with others
Describe AWS Lambda Pricing
1) Charged based on the number of requests for the functions and the time that it takes for them to run
2) Allows 1 million free requests and up to 3.2 million seconds of compute time per month
3) Can save costs by signing up for a Compute Savings Plan which offers lower compute costs in exchange for committing to a consistent amount of usage per a 1-year or 3-year term
Describe Amazon EC2 Pricing
1) Pay for only the compute time that is used while the instances are running
2) Can save costs by using Spot Instances which can be used when running a batch processing job that is able to withstand interruptions
3) Additional savings by using Savings Plans and Reserved Instances
Describe the 4 Cost Components of Amazon S3
1) Storage
* Pay only for the storage that is used
* Charged the rate to store objects in the S3 buckets based on objects’ sizes, storage classes and how long store each object during the month
2) Requests and data retrievals
* Pay for requests made to the S3 objects and buckets
3) Data transfer
* No cost to transfer data between different Amazon S3 buckets or from Amazon S3 to other services within the same AWS Region
* Pay for data that is transferred into and out of Amazon S3
* Exceptions - No cost for data transferred into S3 from the internet or out to Amazon CloudFront and no cost for data transferred out to an EC2 instance in the same AWS Region as the S3 bucket
4) Management and replication
* Pay for the storage management features have enabled on the account’s S3 buckets
* Features include Amazon S3 inventory, analytics and object tagging
List 9 Uses of the AWS Billing & Cost Management Dashboard
1) Pay the AWS bill
2) Monitor usage
3) Analyze and control costs
4) Compare current month-to-date balance with the previous month and get a forecast of the next month based on current usage
5) View month-to-date spend by service
6) View Free Tier usage by service
7) Access Cost Explorer and create budgets
8) Purchase and manage savings plans
9) Publish AWS Cost and Usage Reports
Describe Consolidated Billing
1) Enables to receive a single bill for all AWS accounts in the organization
2) Can easily track the combined costs of all the linked accounts in the organization
3) The default maximum number of accounts allowed for an organization is 4, but can contact AWS Support to increase the quota if needed
4) Another benefit is the ability to share bulk discount pricing, Savings Plans and Reserved Instances across the accounts in the organization
Describe AWS Budgets
1) Can create budgets to plan service usage, service costs and instance reservations
2) The information in AWS Budgets updates three times a day
3) Helps to accurately determine how close the usage is to the budgeted amounts or to the AWS Free Tier limits
4) Can also set custom alerts when the usage exceeds (or is forecasted to exceed) the budgeted amount
Describe AWS Cost Explorer
1) Tool that enables to visualize, understand and manage the AWS costs and usage over time
2) Includes default report of the costs and usage for the top five cost-accruing AWS services
3) Can apply custom filters and groups to analyze the data
