What is the recommendations in children and infants for the influenza vaccine?
Annually for children aged 6m and older. The minimum vaccination with the trivalent inactivated vaccine is 6 months, but minimum age for live vaccine is 2 years old.
It is recommended that the trivalent vaccine given to children between 6m and 8 years old (4 week separation at least), who are receiving the seasonal flu shot for the first time, or who were vaccinated for the first time during the previous influenza season but only received one dose.
What is the Varicella immunization recommendations for adults?
Recommended in adults with no evidence of infection or immunization. 2 doses are required– 4-8 weeks apart, regardless of persons are, unless they have evidence of receiving one dose in the past. No immune pregnant women should wait til after pregnancy for vaccination, but household contacts of immuno competent pregnant women should not delay vaccination. Rarely people receiving the vaccination develop an infection. This occurs in approximately 1%. However, the case is mild, and doesn’t appear to be contagious
At what age should you start screening for lipid disorders in men and women?
MEN: Strongly recommended in men at 35 even in the absence of other risk factors. Screening may occur between 20-35 in the presence of DM, a family history of heart disease by 50, or with other RF.
WOMEN: 45 and older if they are at increased risk for CHD. Women 20-45 at increased risk for CHD.
What’s the recommended screening for colorectal cancer?
Beginning at age 50 until age 75. If there is family history of colon cancer, it’s generally recommended to start screening ten years before the cancer was found in the family member, or at age 50, whichever comes first.
What’s the guidelines for mammograms?
Age 50-74, every two years.
What’s the recommendation for cervical cancer screening?
At least every three years for women who have ever had sex and have a cervix. Screening can safely be delayed three years after the onset of sexually activity, or age 21, whichever comes first.
Discontinue screening at age 70, but also note that a woman who has has three or more documented normal, technically satisfactory Pap smears, and has had no abnormal smears in the last ten years can safely stop screening.
