They are also called pressure injury
What is a pressure ulcer
A localized injury to the skin and/or underlying tissue
Where do we see pressure ulcers and where are they most commonly found?
We can find pressure ulcers over bony prominences and they are most common on the sacrum and heels
How are pressure ulcers caused?
They result from prolonged pressure or pressure in combination with shearing forces
THIS IS A MAIN CAUSE IN THE HOSPITAL WHEN THE PATIENT DOES NOT GET TURNED
How are pressure ulcers caused in the hospital?
Failure to turn a patient
If a patient gets a ulcer while in the hospital who is responsible?
The hospital is, and they get fined
What is another way in the hospital a patient can receive a pressure ulcer?
Injury can be related/caused by or from medical or other devices
In what way can pressure ulcers generally heal?
generally by secondary intention
