Pressure Transducers Flashcards
What are the 7 clinical pressure measurements
Brain- inter cranial
Eyes- intraocular
Heart- intra vascular
Lung- pulmonary artery
Stomach- intraluminal
Bones- intradiscal
Bladder- urethral
What are pressure transducers for biomedical use
They are based on around using strain gauges, piezo-electric transducers or displacement transducers to sense the displacement of a flexible element
What is a venous occlusion plethysmography (VOP)
It is used to measure general vascular function of patient and to measure effects is systematically administered drugs
How does a VOP work
It used a Liquid Metal strain gauge in the form of a fine eleastic tubular hose filled with gallium- indium allow. Sealed at both ends.
A cuff is inflated around lower leg to a pressure of about 40 mm Hg.
Volume of leg increases with rate of volume increase equal to the blood flow
