Pressure & Density Flashcards
What is Pressure?
It’s the force applied perpendicularly over a certain area.
What is the formula for pressure?
Pressure = Force / Area
What is the unit for pressure?
Newtons/size unit ²/³
E.g
N/cm²
N/m³
Give a few examples of objects with high pressure.
High Heels Knife Nail Bullet Arrow Needle Scalpel Fork Pencil
Name a few examples of objects with low pressure.
Skis Blunt Knife Shoes Surf Board Tank Tractor Wheels Mattress
What is Density?
It’s the amount of matter(mass) in a certain area(Volume).
What’s the formula for calculating Density?
Density = Mass / Volume
How do you find the Density of a Regular Shaped Object?
Measure the Height, Width & Length of the object Calculate the volume of the object Measure the mass of the object Divide the mass by the Volume Density = Mass(g) / Volume(cm³)
How do you find the density of an irregular object?
It’s the same as with a regular object
If you want to find the volume you have to use the displacement method
Fill a measuring cylinder to 10cm³. Place your object into the water. Take away 10cm³ from the new volume. The number left over is the volume of the irregular object.
