Earth & Space Flashcards
Why do we have Day & Night?
The Earth spins on its axis which exposes 1 half of earth to the sun leaving the other half in darkness.
It takes 24h for the Earth to do a full 360° spin
What causes seasons?
The Earths Axis is tilted at 23.5°
Seasons change depending on on where the northern hemisphere is pointing towards
If the northern hemisphere is pointing towards the sun then it’s summer
If the northern hemisphere is pointing away from the sun then it’s winter
What is a Solar System?
It’s a gravitationally bound system consisting of the sun & the objects orbiting around it.
What can you find in the solar system?
Sun Planets International Space Station Moons Dwarf Planets Comets
What is the order of planets in the solar system?
My - Mercury Very - Venus Easy - Earth Method - Mars Just - Jupiter Shows - Saturn Us - Uranus Nine - Neptune
What is a Galaxy?
A galaxy is a bunch of gas, dust & billions of stars held together by gravity
What is Gravity?
It’s when an object is attracted to an object with bigger mass.
What’s the difference between mass & weight?
While mass is the matter that makes up the object weight is just the pull of gravity on said object.
What is the equation for finding the weight of an object?
Weight(N) = Mass(kg) x Gravitational Pull(N/kg)h
