pressure Flashcards
What is pressure? Equation? Units?
a measure of force per unit area. P=F/A. Pa n/m^2 atm.
What is density? Equation? Units?
compactness. rho = m/V. kg/m^3
pressure at depth
P=F/A=weight of water/area = rhoVg/A = rhoAhg/A = rhohg
Boyle’s Law
P = k/V
k is constant for the gas
P1V1 = P2V2
pressure is proportional to 1/volume
Pressure Law
P=kT
Pressure proportional to temperature in kelvin
P1/T1=P2/T2
Charles’s Law
V=kT
volume proportional to temperature in kelvin
V1/T1 = V2/T2
3 combined pressure laws
P1V1/T1 = P2V2/T2
What is temperature
The average kinetic energy of particles in a substance. high temp = high kinetic energy.
kelvin to celsius
K-273 = C
why does pressure in a balloon exist
what does temperature do
gas particles collide with the walls of the balloon exerting a force on the area of the walls of the balloon.
temperature increases the kinetic energy of the gas particles so pressure increases as the force exerted is greater.
