Things to include in “new patient” presentation
Chief complaint and pertinent HPI
Important PMH, PSH, etc.
Pertinent positives and negatives from PE
Assessment, plan, and why
Things to include in “follow-up” patient presentation
Patients name, age, date of admission or hospital day #, postop day #, etc.
Recap major patient issues and what has changed
Briefly review present illness, PE, and diagnosis
Report any new findings, lab tests, diagnostic procedures, changes in meds, assessment, plan for the day
Important things to include in bedside patient presentation
Attending will ask pt’s permission to have medical student present case — will let pt ask questions at any point
Student should involve the patient in their presentation
