Who is entitled to free prescriptions?
A
- Children (<16 years)
- Aged 16-18in fulltime education.
- Elderly (aged 60 or over)
- If the patient or their partner receives income support or jobseeker’s allowance.
- If the patient has a prescription exemption certificate.

Who are entitled to prescription exemption certificates? (FP92A)
A
- Women who are pregnant or have had a child in the past year.
- Hypoparathyroidism
- Hypoadrenalism for which specific substitution therapy is essential (e.g. Addison’s Disease)
- Diabetes insipidus and other forms of hypopituitarism
- Diabetes mellitus except where treatment is by diet alone
- Myasthenia gravis
- Hypothyroidism requiring thyroid hormone replacement
- Epilepsy requiring continuous anti-convulsive therapy
- A permanent fistula requiring continuous surgical dressing or requiring an appliance
- Undergoing treatment for cancer. This includes treatment for the effects of cancer or for the effects of cancer treatments

Who are eligible for Pre-Payment Certificates?
A
- For patient not entitled to free prescriptions but for people who get frequent prescriptions.
- Prescriptions become cheaper if they pay for more than 14 prescriptions in a year.
