Prepartion And Training Flashcards
Explain the term lactate sampling and respiratory exchange ratio
Lactate sampling: taking blood samples to measure the level of lactic acid
- ensures training is at the correct intensity
- provides accurate measures OBLA (threshold)
RER: ratio of co2 realised compared to o2 used by the body
- estimates the use of fats and carbs during exercise
- close to 1 using carbs
- close to 0.7 using fats
Briefly outline HGH and side effects
- hormone that mimics bodies growth hormone
- protein synthesis = lean muscle mass
- increase bone density and less body fat
Problems with
. Internal organs
. Heart failure high bP
Briefly outline beta blockers
- hormones used to lower metabolic activity
- reduce HR and BP to have steady nerves
. Low BP and chronic fatigue
Briefly outline EPO and side effects
Mimic bodies EPO which occurs naturally in the body
Stimulates body to manufacture RBC in bone marrow
Enhances o2 capacity
. Viscosity and lead to clotting .. Heart failure
Briefly outline anabolic steroids and side effects
Male hormone testosterone
Strength and power
Inject a storage of protein and the growth of lean muscle mass
Liver damage
Heart failure
Aggression
Mood swings
