Preparing a lesson Flashcards
Step one: outline learning objectives
Determine what you want students to learn and be able to do. Understand what the topic is, but you want students to learn, what you want them to understand and be able to do at the end of class, and what you want them to take away.
Step two: develop the introduction
Design the specific activities you will use to get students to understand and apply what they have learned. For example, you can start with a simple pole, how many of you have heard of X or raise your hand if you’ve heard of why. This also gives you a sense of the students familiarity with the topicand how you will then introduce the topic.
Step three: plan the specific learning activities or the body of the lesson
Prepare several different ways of explaining the material to catch the attention of students and appeal to different learning styles (pictures, real life, examples, etc.)
Step four: check for student understanding
After explaining the topic and illustrating it with different examples, you need to check for student understanding about the lesson. Maybe have them write something down or do something to demonstrate what they’ve learned.
Step 5: develop a conclusion and a preview
Go over the material by summarizing the main point of the lesson, you can ask a student to help summarize, perhaps connect to a larger concept
Step six: create a realistic timeline
It can be easy to run out of time and not cover all the main points. Narrow down a list of about 2 to 3 key concepts you want your students to learn to reflect your flexibility and readiness to adapt to a classroom environment.
