Assess situation Check with patient what she can do - how would it be easiest for pt - erect supine May need extra people to help Sensitively due to embarrassment Check if table weight can take pt
You are xraying a patient with ?forearm fracture. They have lots of bandages on their arm with a ruler stuck in between the the bandages. How do you go about taking this patients xrays?
Remove bandages that are superficial and easy to remove
If you suspect arm badly fractured take one projection to assess if ruler is radio-opaque/if there is a clear fracture
Remove remaining bandages and splint only if certain you wont worsen fracture
Horiray for second projection
How would you prepare for a 4 month old NAI series?
- Projections written down
- Probable exposures written down
- Aprons ready for caregivers
- Cassettes ready
- Film runner and assistant organised
- Sponges and immobilisation devices ready
- Warm blanket etc
- Radiation protection act
You have a patient for an erect scoliosis series… your patient arrives in a wheelchair. How would you organise room?

After explaining the risks of CM to a patient, they decide they dont want to go ahead with the scan. How do you handle this situation and what patient rights are involved.
Ensure patient is fully informed why they are having the examination, the info that will be obtained to further dx/tx.
Check there is no other reason for exam (fear of needles)
Respect patients wishes, organise return visit to referrer if necessary.

Why is the chest xray the mostly commonly asked for xray in trauma situations?
The C spine is immobilised initially by the ED doctors so that will be reasonably stable.
The chest is the most life threatening condition that requires immediate diagnosis and treatment

All body secretions are regarded as infectious and precautions need to be used to stop spread of infectious diseases to staff and patients This requires - Handwashing Gloves Protective apron Plastic sheets to cover detector Clean/dirty person
Thorough cleaning of all surfaces/equipment afterwards. Dispose of equipment into hazardous waste
