Measure span joist from wall-wall
Multiply the span by 0.07 to give up you 7%
No notches to be made in the first 7%
Then multiply span by 0.25 to give you 25%
Any notch must be made between the 7% and 25%

Depth for notching:

Must not begin with 25%
Must stop point equal to 40%
Must be between 25 and 40

Lifting floorboards

Locate joists
Mark centre
Number boards
Use nail punch
Set circular saw just less than the depth of the board
Use a bolster chisel to prize it up
