What is prep
A
PrEP is the pre emptive use of ARVs to reduce the probability of HIV negative individuals from acquiring HIV infection especially in persons who are deemed to be at substantial risk

Criteria for initiation on prep
A
- Substantial risk of acquiring HIV
- HIV seronegativr
- No sign or symptoms of active HIV infection
- No protein in urine on urinalysis
- Willingness to take PrEP as prescribed

List 9 components of PrEP minimum package
A
- HIV testing and counseling
- Hepatitis screening
- Comprehensive prevention including Risk reduction counseling, distribution of condoms and lubricants
- Assessment of kidney function
- STi screening diagnosis and treatment
- Screening for co morbidities and pregnancy
- Referral for MHPSS, legal aid services and post gbv care
- Adherence counseling
- Assessment of need for contraceptive and screening for pregnancy

What is event driven Prep
A
Prep mainly used by MSM for prevention when a singular act of sexual intercourse
2 tabs 2-24hrs before sex, 1 tab after sex and 24hours after the first dose and 1 tab 24hrs after the 2nd dose

Contraindications to PrEP
A
- HIV positive test
- Signs of acute infection
- Exposure in the last 72hiurs to HIV
- Unable to commit to adherence
- Sub optimal kidney function
- Concurrent nephrotoxic medication

Frequency of creatinine clearance assessment while in PrEP
A
At initiation, then
At 6months
then annually as long as result is normal
