Premolar Overview Flashcards
What are the anatomical structures that make up the borders of an occlusal table?
Mesial & Distal marginal ridges, Buccal and Lingual Cusps (M & D cusp ridges of each cusp)
What anatomical features are found within an occlusal table?
M & D pits, Central groove, M & D fossa
How many developmental lobes are normally found in premolars?
4 lobes (5 lobes on a 3 cusp premolar)
How many developmental lobes make up the facial cusps of premolars?
3 lobes (MB, Mid-Buccal, DB)
What is a transverse ridge?
Two triangular ridges that line up on opposing cusps
From an occlusal view, which premolar would show more of the facial surface?
Mandibular (angled lingual to fit within the maxillary arch)
Compare the relative MD and FL dimensions of a maxillary premolar.
a. Mandibular premolar.
FL > MD
a. FL > MD
Which teeth do the premolars succeed?
Primary molars (only succedaneous teeth to be replaced by a different names tooth)
