Prematurity Overview
A
- Baby born at 36 weeks will be slow to feed
- Baby born before 33 weeks will have more serious problems
- Baby born before 28 weeks will have very significant problems but survival rate is good

Prematurity Presentation
A
- SGA baby will have little subcutaneous fat
- Risk of
- Hypothermia, hypoglycaemia (especially if SGA)
- RDS
- If oxygen levels are too high, baby at risk of retrolental fibroplasia, blindness

Prematurity Long Term Problems
A
- Higher risk of neurodevelopmental problems
- 1/4 below 1.5kg have peripheral sight or hearing loss
