Premature Junctional Contractions (PJC's) Flashcards
What is a PJC?
Occurs when an irritable area in junctional tissue generates an impulse before the next SA initiated beat.
Is there a P wave?
- Absent
- Inverted
- Before or after QRS
Is there a QRS?
YES
Is there a PR interval?
Maybe; If yes it may be shorter. <.11 seconds
Is the rate normal?
No bc there is an underlying rhythm
Is the rhythm normal?
No, bc of the early beat
How are PJC’s treated?
- If infrequent = Monitor
2. If increase in frequency = IV bb, ccb, AMIODERONE
If PJC’s increase in frequency, what does this signify?
- Increase in Ischemia
2. Increase in irritability
What is PSVT?
Premature Supraventricular Tachycardia; This term is used when we are unable to specifically ID the particular tachycardia.
How can I distinguish PSVT from V tach?
The QRS complex is not wider than normal
What is the rate in PSVT?
> 150 bpm
Is the rhythm regular in PSVT?
YES
Is there a PR interval?
NO; P wave may be hidden in the QRS or on top of the T wave
