a man was walking from jerusalem to jericho, he was attacked, robbed, beaten, stripped and left half dead. a priest walked past on the other side of the road as did a levite. a Samaritan came past and bandaged his wounds pouring oil and wine on them. he put the man on his donkey and took care of him. he took him to an inn and paid for his expenses
what is a mortal sin
very grave sin, committed deliberately, so grave that the person is in need of forgiveness and salvation
what is discrimination
treating someone differently because of who or what they are
what is prejudice
prejudging someone before knowing them
what 4 stages are there of the sacrament of reconcilliation
> contrition- genuine sense of being sorry
confession- acknowledgment of sins
absolution- removal of guilt, forgivness
penance- act (eg prayer) is required off the person who has received gods forgivness
what are the four aims of punishment
> retribution- revenge
deterance- punish one to put people off committing other crimes
protection- locking away to protect society
reform- trying to change the offenders behavior so they are no longer a threat
what types of punishments are there
