Explain the role of the midwife in promoting a healthy diet for all women during pregnancy, give specific examples.
A
- A balanced diet ( e.g. “eatwell plate” ) which includes at least 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, which will ensure the provision of a range of required vitamins and minerals.
- The midwifes role is to provide individualised care/advice for woman, which would take into account any particular requirements ( e.g. food allergies ) or preferences ( e.g. vegetarian or Halal ). They may require referral to a dietician/specialist.
