Contains coumarin like compounds (only found in bark, bud, pericarp of fruid NOT the seed) and may theoretically interact with anti-coagulant medication

Mentha piperita - indications
Oil (orally) = GI anti-spasmodic
Oil (inhaled) = cooling effect on peripheral circulation
Traditional: flatulent dyspepsia, colic, dysmenorrhea, inhaled for respiratory conditions, diaphoretic tea, NVP
Mentha piperita - Cautions
Lactation (leaf ok but oil discouraged), gallstones, constipation, iron deficiency anemia, malnutrition all because of high tannin content. Inflammation or ulceration of the GIT

GERD, cholecystitis (oil), severe lever disease (oil), topical application to faces of babies, pregnancy (oil)

Mucousal ulcerations (oil), sensitivity reaction of the mouth and airway, heartburn, anal burning

AE: rare at moderate doses
Toxicity: Vomiting, excessive salivation, epleptic spasms, cyanosis

Zingiber officinale - indications
Nausea, vomiting
Traditional: dysmenorrhea, flatulent dyspepsia, colic, prophylactically against N/V
May be protective against NSAID induced gastritis
Zingiber officinale - Cautions
CI: Gallstones
Cautions: Avoid doses >4g qd if taking blood thinning drugs, peptic ulceration, other gastric disease, heartburn
AE: mild GI reactions (heartburn esp at high doses)
Interactions: anti-coagulants. May increase bioavailability of many drugs. Dopamine antagonists/anti-emetics.
