When the cells start to become specialised with arms and legs visible
What is the function of amniotic fluid?
Protects the baby
Function of the placenta
Takes oxygen and food from the mothers blood and puts waste into mothers blood
Function of umbilical cord
Carries oxygen,food and waste between the mother and baby
What does the amniotic fluid act as?
A shock absorber!
The placenta is like a barrier give a reason why
The mother and foetus each have separate blood circulatory systems so they don’t mix at the placenta
What substances can pass through the placenta from the baby to the mother?
Carbon dioxide and other waste / urea
What useful stubstances can pass across the placenta from the mother to the fetus
Oxygen, divested food/glucose, antibodies
What harmful stubstances can pass from the MOTHER to the fetus
Drugs,alcohol, some microbes like HiV and rubella.
