Preflight / Regulations Flashcards
To memorize and understand the various aspects and regulations pertinent to the preflight.
Which documents must be in the aircraft?
A - Airworthiness Certificate
R - Registration (state and federal)
R - Radio License (international operations)
O - Operating Limitations (POH/AFM/Placards)
W - Weight and Balance
Does the airworthiness certificate expire?
No, there is no expiration date on an airworthiness certificate. It will become invalid if the aircraft is not kept in an airworthy state.
What are the required inspections?
A - Annual (12 Calendar Months) V - VOR (30 days / IFR) 1 - 100 Hour (For Compensation/Hire) A - Altimeter/Pitot Static (24 Calendar Months / IFR) T - Transponder (24 Calendar Months) E - ELT (12 Calendar Months)
What is the difference between an annual and a 100 hour?
An annual must be signed off by an IA (Inspection Authorization), but a 100 hour can be signed off by an A&P.
Can you overfly a 100 hour?
Yes, but only by 10 hours if it is being flown to a base where the inspection will be completed. The time you fly over is subtracted from the next 100-hour interval.
When must the ELT battery be replaced?
After one hour of cumulative use, or 50% of its useful battery life.
When can you test the ELT?
The first 5 minutes of any hour, on the ground, no more than three sweeps.
Can a 100 hour take the place of an annual?
No, but an annual can take the place of a 100 hour.
What equipment is required for VFR day flight?
A - Airspeed Indicator
T - Tachometer
O - Oil Pressure Gauge
M - Manifold Pressure Gauge (Constant-Speed Prop)
A - Altimeter
T - Temperature Gauge (Liquid-Cooled Engine)
O - Oil Temperature Gauge (Air-Cooled Engine)
F - Fuel Gauges
L - Landing Gear Position Indicator (Retractable)
A - Anti-Collision Lights
M - Magnetic Compass

S - Safety Belts
What equipment is required for VFR night flight?
All the VFR day requirements plus, F - Fuses (One full set, or three of each required) L - Landing Light (Compensation/Hire) A - Anti-Collision Lights P - Position Lights S - Source of Power
What must you do to remain current as a private pilot?
To carry passengers during the day, three takeoffs and landings within the previous 90 days in the same category, class, and type (if applicable). To carry passengers at night, they must be done within 1 hour after sunset and 1 hour before sunrise, full stops. To carry passengers in a tail wheel they must be full stops.
