What aircaft instruments/equipment are required for IFR operations?

Those required for VFR day and night flight plus:

Generator or alternator of adequate capacity

Radios (appropriate for facilities used)

Altermeter (sensitive)

Ball (slip/skid indicator of turn coordinator)

Clock (sweep second hand or digital presetation)

Attitude indicaor

Rate of turn (turn coordinator)

Directional Gyro

Question 3

What are the required tests and inspections of aircraft and equipment to be legal for IFR flight?

Answer 3

1. The aircraft must have an annual inspection. IF operated for hire or rental, it must alos have a 100-hour inspecction. A record must be kept in aircraft/engine logbooks.
2. The pitot/static system must have been checked within the preceding 24 calendar months. A record must be kept in the aircraft logbooks.
3. The trasponder must have been checked within the preceding 24 calendar months. A record must be kept in the aircraft logbook.
4. The altimeter must have been checked within the preceding 24 calendar months. A record must be kept in the aircraft logbook.
5. The VOR must have been checked within the preceding 30 days. A record must be kept in a bound logbook.

Question 4

May portable electronic devices be operated on board an aircraft?

Answer 4

No person may operate nor may any PIC allow the operation of any portable electronic device:

1. On aircraft operated by an air carrier or commercial operator; or
2. On any other aircraft while it is operated under IFR

Exceptions are : portable voice recorders, hearing aids, heart pacemakers, electric shavers or any other portable electronic device that the operator of the aircraft has determinded will not cause interference with the navigation or communication system of the aircraft.
