Preflight Flashcards
What are the pilot qualifications for preflight?
- 50 hours or XC as PIC 2. 40 hours of actual or simulated instrument time, of which 15 hours from instructor 3. XC flight of 250 nm or more with an instructor and 3 different kinds of approaches
What are the certification requirements to apply for an instrument rating?
- Already have a private pilot certificate, or be concurrently applying for a private pilot certificate with your instrument rating. 2. Be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
What are the recency requirements for IFR flight?
- A flight review 2. To carry passengers, 3 takeoffs and landings in prior 90 days in the same category, class, and type. 3. 6 instrument approaches within 6 months.
What happens if you go past 6 months without IFR recency?
You can fly with a safety pilot.
What happens if you go past 12 months without IFR recency?
You must have an Instrument Proficiency Check (IPC) with a CFII or DPE.
What are the privileges and limitations for commercial pilots without an instrument rating?
Cannot carry passengers further than 50 nm or at night, must file a flight plan and receive a clearance, can’t legally accept an IFR clearance without an instrument rating.
What are the BasicMed privileges and limitations?
Pilots can operate covered aircraft with a maximum certificated takeoff weight of not more than 6,000 pounds and not authorized to carry more than six occupants, at altitudes up to 18,000 feet MSL.
What is the memory hook for BasicMed?
6/6000/18000
What is the difference between proficiency and currency?
Proficient: capable of conducting a flight with a high degree of competence. Currency: have performed the minimum FAA requirements within the allowed timeframe.
What must a pilot do to carry passengers in IFR?
Complete 3 takeoffs and landings in the same category, class, and type in the last 90 days. If at night, the landings must be full stop.
How often must a flight review occur?
Every 24 months.
What are personal minimums for IFR?
My personal minimums for IFR are as follows (5 SM VIS; 2000 FT Above; 1000 FT BELOW; 2000 FT. HORIZONTAL)
What does IMSAFE stand for?
Illness
Medication
Stress
Alcohol
Fatigue
External Factors
It refers to factors that might affect a pilot’s ability to fly IFR.
What should a pilot consider when flying unfamiliar airplanes?
While legal to fly a 172 with a six pack, it would be unwise without additional training and a logbook endorsement.
When is an instrument rating required?
- IFR flight 2. In conditions < minimums for VFR 3. Class A 4. SVFR in B, C, D, & E surface areas between sunset and sunrise 5. Carrying passengers > 50 nm or at night.
What information must the PIC have before flight?
Notams, Weather, Known ATC delays, Runway lengths, Alternates, Fuel, Takeoff and landing distances at airports of intended use.
What is RAIM?
Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring is self-monitoring to ensure adequate signal coverage at all times.
How can a pilot check RAIM?
Contact FSS, use SAPT, use a 3rd party interface, or use the receiver’s installed RAIM prediction.
What records must be kept after a VOR check?
- Date 2. Place 3. Bearing error 4. Signed in aircraft logbook.
What are the VOR check requirements?
