Features of blood test (4)
Simultaneous for p24(detectable 6d before Ab) and HIV antibody (detectable after 4-6wks)
95% are +Ve at 4-6wks
99%+ve after 3mo => retest at 3mo

Finger prick test (5)
Finger prick or saliva (only 2mins)
Detect Abs only
Good when already established infection e.g. Pregnant woman about to deliver/needle stick
Only +ve after 3mo/bad at detecting recent infection
+ve result needs confirmation w. Lab assay
RNA PCR
Can detect RNA 1wk post infection
But expensive and unreliable
Used on babies born to HIV +ve mothers
