What are some post op complications?
A
- Bleed or clot
- Shock
- Infection (bacterial/ chest)
- Line associated (phlebitis)
- Muscle wasting

A
- Mobilising
- Hand hygiene

What is the RN’s role with pre admission?
A
- Ensure client prepared (mentally and physically).
- Comprehensive assessment
- Pre op orders (nil by mouth ect, possibly withhold meds eg. Warfarin)
- Vitals (find their ‘normal’

What is Dosa? and what are the risk management strategies?
A
DAY OF SURGERY ADMISSION Risk management strategies: -Identify right patient -ID band on patient -Make sure they understand the surgery. -Drug allergies.

What occurs when transferring the patient to the operating theatre?
A
- Warm patient
- Check consent
- Risk management strategies.
- Go through checklist with another RN who will hand over to anaesthetist.

What is the Nurses role in the operating theatre?
A
- Counts instruments/ gauze
- In-charge of hygiene (maintains sterility)
- Initiates Timeout (every stops for intro)

Whats the Nurses role for the PACU transfer?
A
- Airway, breathing, circulation, bleeding.
- 1:1 nurse/ patient care.
- Pain relief/ Anti nausea medication

What is the breathing assessment management?
A
- Rate
- O2 saturations
- Breathing effort (deep or shallow)
- Asculate lungs
- Don’t depress respiratory system with pain medication.

A
- Arrhythmias

- Low BP
- Haemorrhage (bleeding)

What can increased blood pressure and/ or heart rate be a sign of?
A
-Internal bleeding.
