What are common pregnancy complications?
A
- Hypertensive problems
- Preterm labour
- Problems with fetal growth
- Gestational diabetes
- Placenta praevia

What is done in an antenatal examination?
A
- BP, urinalysis
- Inspect: distension, linea nigra
- Palpate: fundal height measurement (from symphysis bone to fundus), fetal poles (head and bottom), presenting part, engagement (is head engaged with the pelvis)
- Auscultate fetal heart - best heard over anterior shoulder

What are common postnatal problems?
A
- Feeding issues
- Perineal care - sutures
- Ongoing health - contraception, cervical screening, medical disease

What needs to be asked in a gynae history?
A
- Age
- Parity and gravidity
- LMP, menarche, cycle, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea, intermenstrual bleeding, loss of blood, pain
- Dyspareunia, post-coital bleeding
- Past gynae and obstetric hx, PMH
- Any vaginal discharge
- Smear history (date of last smear) and any problems/action taken
- Contraception, HRT
- STIs, sexual health (sexually active, partner)
- Menopause
- Dysuria, frequency, haematuria, nocturia, stress or urge incontinence
- Bowel habits, vomiting, appetite change, weight loss
- Fluid intake - water, juice, no. of cups of coffee/tea, alcohol
- SH - smoker, heavy lifting, children to care for
- DH, allergies, FH

Visualising the cervix under a microscope to help in diagnosis of pre-malignant and malignant conditions.
