Purpose of Pre-Op Assessment?
A
- Allay fear and anxiety
- Identify potential anaesthetic difficulties
- Improve safety by assessing and quantifying risk
- Optimise plan of peri-operative care
- Provide opportunity for explanation and discussion

Ease of intubation score?
A
Malampatti Score
- Uvula, soft palate and pillars visible
- Uvula, soft palate, fauces
- Base of uvula visible, soft palate visible
- Only hard palate visible

ASA Grades?
A
- Healthy, no disease
- Mild systemic disease without functional limitations
- Severe systemic disease with substantiative functional limitations
- Severe systemic disease which is a constant threat to life
- Moribund patient who is not expected to survive without operation
- Brainstem dead patient whose organs are being removed

A
Solids and milk containing drinks- 6 hours Breast fed infants- 4 hours Clear fluids- 2 hours (1 for children) Alcohol- 24 hours Boiled sweets and chewing gum are ok

Factors that delay gastric emptying
A
- Metabolic (diabetes, RF)
- Pyloric stenosis (6 week old boys)
- Mechanical (pregnancy, obesity)
- Trauma (RTA, head injury)
- Others (high fat, anxiety)

A
- Preoxygenation, Et02>90
- One induction agent plus one muscle relaxant
- Thiopentone/propofol
- Suxamethonium/rocuronium
- Cricoid pressure, no ventilation, remove pressure after confirmation of tube position (EtC02)
