Anti-Realism
denies that universal truth exists
Realism
universal truth exists outside the mind
Ethical Objectivism
says right and wrong are objective and there are moral facts and ethics is objective in nature
Cognitivist
there is an ethical reality we can now and speak about meaningfully
Rationalist
ethical disputes can be rationally resolved by logic and reasoning
Absolutist
there is an objective right or wrong answer to every ethical question
Ethical Naturalism
moral facts are natural facts just like any other (observable, measurable, features of the natural world)
Non-Naturalism
there are moral facts but they are not observable features of the natural world
Ethical Relativism
ethical statements are not objectively true or false in virtue of their correspondence with objective moral thoughts
Non-Cognitism
ethical utterances are not really statements about that can be validated, they may assert opinion but not true or false
Ethical Egoism
prescriptive, says what is good for each individual is what is ethical for them to do
Psychological Egoism
descriptive, even if it is wrong, people will be selfish, everyone does things only for themselves
Utilitarianism
doing the greatest good for the greatest number of people is what is ethical
Deontology
emphasized duty and principles but not their outcomes
Commission
you tell a lie that isn’t true, your intent was to deceive the person
