pre-existing HTN/ DM

previous pre-eclampsia or FHx
what medication is given to those with risk factors for pre-eclampsia
150 mg aspirin
what is the suspected pathophysiology of pre-eclampsia
placenta is hypoperfused due to abnormal development
it releases pro-inflammatory proteins into maternal circulation
leading to dysfunctional vessel endothelium causing:
vasoconstriction
salt retention
thrombi formation - haemolysis
increased vascular permeability
what are complications of pre-eclampsia
seizure
haemorrhagic stroke
placental abruption
management of pre-eclampsia
delivery of baby
BP control (labetalol, nifedipine)
IV magnesium sulphate
fluid control
