Pre course West Low Flashcards
Functional Goal #1
In the provision of air traffic control and flight information service, all Air
Traffic Services units shall provide:
A. uniform application of approved standards and procedures;
B. professional communications; and
C. full-time attentive flight monitoring and flight information services.
All other assignments are secondary. Full and active individual support is
essential.
HAMILTON Sector
HM
7,000-FL230 & 12,000-FL230
Controls the south, and southwest bound Toronto Pearson and Toronto
satellite departure flow into Cleveland ARTCC - both climbing into the high
(above FL230), and traffic staying low.
A complicating factor is separating
the southbound Toronto departure flow from the crossing east / westbound
traffic.
GRIMSBY Sector
GR
7,000-FL230 & 11,000-FL230
Controls the traffic inbound to Toronto Pearson and satellite airports (CYTZ,
CYOO etc.), from overhead Buffalo, Rochester, and Dunkirk.
Provides service to westbound traffic departing the Buffalo and Niagara airports.
Controls the Toronto Pearson and satellite departure flow to the eastern USA seaboard.
KITCHENER Sector
KF
7,000-FL230 & 12,000-FL230
Controls from 12,000 to FL230 overlying XU sector, covering CYXU, CYGD
and CYZR and from 7,000 to FL230 in the vicinity of CYKF.
The Kitchener sector is responsible for sequencing traffic for Toronto Pearson airport, with aircraft arriving from western Canada and the USA.
Kitchener also handles northwest bound traffic departing from Toronto and traffic departing London and Hamilton airports to the North and Northwest as well as from Kitchener airport departing Northwest, West, and Southwest.

CYHM STARS (RNAV)
Hamilton airport has four RNAV STARS, two of which – AVSOX2 and COLTS7 – are flight planned regularly.
The TIKUM2 arrival may be flight planned on occasion for aircraft arriving from directly south of the Hamilton airport.
AVSOX2 - RWYS 06, 12, 24 and 30
COLTS7 – RWYS 06, 12, 24 and 30
TIKUM2 – RWYS 06, 12, 24 and 30
The fourth STAR – UDMIK3 – is flight planned for aircraft arriving from the
north of Hamilton, through the Toronto Terminal Unit, and has little impact on us under normal conditions since those aircraft should be below our airspace prior to the terminal boundary.
