A

The breakage of RBC membrane and causes release of intra-cellular components haemoglobin into surrounding fluid.

what are the causes of haemolysis?

A

results from certain health conditions
improper specimen collection and vigorous handling
prolonged tourniquet time
difficult venepuncture/poor blood flow

A

pink/red tinge to the serum or plasma. this can lead to inaccurate results and specimen rejection by the laboratory
