Prayer Flashcards
Luke 18:1-8
This is the parable of the widow who wearied the judge; “I will avenge her lest by her continual coming she weary me.”
1 And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint;
2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man:
3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary.
4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
7 And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?
Mark 10: 46-52
Bartimaeus, who was blind, cried out to Jesus… everyone told him to shut up. “But he cried the more a great deal…” then Jesus asked him specifically what he wanted, then gave it to him.
46 And they came to Jericho: and as he went out of Jericho with his disciples and a great number of people, blind Bartimæus, the son of Timæus, sat by the highway side begging.
47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
48 And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.
49 And Jesus stood still, and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee.
50 And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus.
51 And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight.
52 And Jesus said unto him, Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way.
Matthew 15: 21-28
The woman’s daughter was vexed with a devil; Jesus ignored her. Then she worshipped her and he replied that he shouldn’t give bread meant for the children to the dog. OUCH. Incrediibly, she doesn’t give up! She replies, that’s true, but what about the crumbs? He commends her great faith and makes the daughter whole.
D&C 88: 63-64
Draw near unto me and I will draw near unto you; seek me diligently and he shall find me; ask, and he shall receive; knock, and it shall be opened unto you… he will unveil his face to you.
