Fuel - change tanks
Mixture - move through the whole range , ICO then full rich
Oil - temp and pressure (discontinue if no oil pressure)
Switches select left and right magnetos then try restart
Throttle cycle through range

- Mayday x 3
- Call sign x 3
- AC type
- Position
- POB
- Nature of emergency
Intentions or any other relevant info
What is the initial action of an engine failure
- Trade excess speed for altitude
- set for best glide speed
- Check for fire
- Carbon heat on
- Fuel selector, pump, quantity, pressure, primer
- Mixture rich
- ## mags both
Brief the passengers for a Forced landing
(Name) we have experienced an engine failure, please remain calm i have trained for this and i will need to concerntrate, we are going to carry out a forced landing , please secure loose items and retrieve the PLB, assume brace position as instructed, on command open the door and evacuate in a safe direction to a safe area when we have stopped
What are HHELLL Checks?
Height - sufficient for recovery by 3000ft
Hatches and Harnesses - secure
Engine - FMOST
. Fuel Pump on
. Mixture rich
. Oil T and P
. Switches both mags on
. Throttle (NA for pre stall check)
Loose objects - All stowed
Location - Clear of built up areas
Look out - Complete 360 Turn
What is SSSSSS?
Size - As large as possible whilst sill in gliding distance
Shape - Use a diagonal landing path, caution of furrows
Slope - A slight up hill is best
Surface - Firm dry ground Avoid obstacles
Surroundings - good undershoot and overshoot
