Aspirin, ibuprofene, paracetamol is crushed; Weighed out to 0.1g; Placed in test tube; Dissolved in 0.5cm3 ethanol; Repeated with caffeine and anadin extra but 7cm3 ethanol

What is the method for running the TLC?

A

Small quantity of ethyl ethanoate in beaker; TLC plate draw 5 horizontal lines in pencil, baseline; 5 crosses; Capillary tube to draw solution and transfer to crosses; Do dot too large; Place TLC plate in beaker w/ solvent, solvent shouldn’t cover spots; Lid on beaker; Solvent travel up plate dissolving compounds, lid prevents evaporation; Solvent reaches top. remove plate, draw line w/ pencil, solvent front; Dry TLC; Spot visible under UV lamp; Dry TLC; Pencil to draw around spots under UV; Calculate Rf values
