Practicals Flashcards
What is the aim for these three practicals?
The aim is to investigate the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere.
What happens in the clamp and stand practical?
They took a piece of iron wool and placed it at the bottom of the measuring cylinder, They then turned that upside down and put it in a beaker filled with water. They secured it with a clamp and stand. The metal reacts with the air, Therefore the water will rise as some of the air was used up.
What happened in the bell jar practical?
They took a piece of phosphorus wool and placed it in a plastic plate and let it float on the water.A bell jar is then put on top to help the oxygen not escape. The oxygen will react with the wool and the water level will increase. Use a ruler to measure the initial and final water level.
What happened in the Gas syringe practical?
Copper wool was placed inside a glass tube that was connected with two syringes. The tube is then heated and the copper reacts with the air. The gas syringe is squeezed to help all the air pass through the copper. Then the air inside was measured.
How do you find the % of Oxygen?
Amount of 02/initial amount of air x 100%
What are the dependent, control and independent variables?
Dependent is something that you change, Independent is the thing that you measure and control variable is the thing that stays the same
